Workshop Overview

A focused, interactive 2-hour workshop designed to help students create compelling CVs and cover letters that showcase their unique value proposition and authentic professional narrative.

 

Workshop Plan

Part 1: Personal Brand & Storytelling

    • Value Proposition & Narrative: Help students identify their unique professional strengths and create a compelling map of their career journey
    • Achievement Extraction: Transform experiences into compelling achievement statements

Part 2: CV Construction

    • Skills-Based Organization: Students will learn to organize their CVs around key competencies rather than chronology, highlighting transferable skills

Part 3: Cover Letter 

    • Company Research & Hooks: Learn to identify organizational values and craft compelling opening statements 

 

Trainer’s Information

Name: Ms. Aster Law

Experience: Currently teaching at the English Department at Hong Kong Shue Yan University, with experience in Teaching ENG 211 English Writing I and ENG 212 English Writing II. Over 10 years helping professionals and students craft compelling CVs and cover letters across various industries.

Remarks

For the 2025/26 academic year, first-year Mainland students are required by the Registry to attend at least one English workshop from the Language Centre, and attending this workshop co-organized with the Centre also count toward fulfilling this requirement.

This activity will be recorded in the participants’ Award and Co-curricular Achievement Transcript (ACAT).

Participants can include this activity in the category of “Career Development” in your application for Dr. Li Dak Sum Outstanding Whole Person Development Awards.
